The grand finale of the first American Song Contest takes place on May 9! That's interesting for K-pop fans too, because the American-Korean singer AleXa is one of the 10 finalists! She debuted in Korea in 2019 and you may know her from songs like ”Revolution”, “Xtra” or her latest single “Tattoo”!

The American Song Contest is the US version of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), which has been held every year since 1956. The ESC is an international music competition in which the participants represent different European countries. Every year, millions of viewers around the world watch the show.
At the American Song Contest, all 50 U.S. states, five territories and the capital Washington, D.C. compete against each other. Oklahoma has sent a probably rather unexpected contestant into the race: the K-pop singer AleXa! Of course, that doesn't come out of nowhere, because AleXa was born and raised in Oklahoma. That makes her a fitting representative for the state and brings some variety to the competition!
All 56 participants had to submit a new, original song for the contest, which they perform in all rounds of the competition. AleXa released the new single “Wonderland” and impressed with a strong performance in the first qualifying round on March 21:
In each of the five qualifying rounds, 11-12 artists competed against each other. In each round, 4 of them were voted into the next round, one by the jury and the remaining 3 by a phone vote of viewers across the country. Afterwards, of all those who hadn't made it, the 2 artists with the most streams were added to the semifinalists. AleXa was voted through by the viewer vote.
In two semifinal rounds, 11 participants each competed against each other once again. AleXa was once again in the first round. She performed “Wonderland” again, but with a slightly changed performance, and started in the air!
You can probably say that the talented singer delivered the most elaborate show in the competition!
As before, one artist was voted through by the jury. In the first semifinal, that was Allen Stone from Washington. The four winners of the viewer vote were only announced a week later at the second semifinal. AleXa's fans had pulled out all the stops once more and made it possible for the singer to reach the final!
Now, next Monday, she will compete against the other nine finalists for first place! Her opponents include superstar Michael Bolton, so it will definitely not be easy.
In an interview after the semifinal, AleXa revealed that she has lots of ideas for an even better and bigger performance, in order to show something new once more in the final. So we can definitely look forward to it and are keeping our fingers crossed for her!
