In December 2019, “The ReVe Festival: Finale” was released, Red Velvet's most recent album as a group to date. Only two days later, on December 25, member Wendy fell more than two meters during the dress rehearsal for the annual "Gayo Daejun" music festival of the television network SBS. Wendy was taken to hospital with fractures of her pelvis and wrist as well as a broken cheekbone. On the same day, her agency SM Entertainment announced that the other members of Red Velvet would continue their individual activities at further year-end shows but would not perform as a group. The SBS team was heavily criticized by fans, because the accident happened as Wendy was sent to the stage in the dark and lost her balance, since the lift she was supposed to step onto had not been raised.
At the beginning of 2020, Joy, Yeri, Irene and Seulgi continued the arena tour "La Rouge" in Japan, which had begun in November 2019, without Wendy. In fact, things went quiet around Wendy for a long time while she recovered from her injuries. In July, Irene & Seulgi released their album “Monster” as Red Velvet's first sub-unit.
Not until August 2020 did Wendy partially return to her activities. Together with the rest of the group, she released a cover of BoA's “Milky Way” and a soundtrack for the K-drama “Start-Up”. On the first of January 2021, she even performed at SM Town's online concert “Culture Humanity”.
Fans were especially happy about her solo debut with the mini album “Like Water”, which followed in April and officially marked the end of her hiatus. In May, another solo debut followed right away, as Joy released her first album “Hello”.
In June, SM Entertainment then announced the news that countless fans worldwide have undoubtedly been longing for: Red Velvet is coming back in August with a new album!
In recent days, a series of teasers has appeared on the group's official Youtube channel. As if the anticipation weren't already big enough, a shimmering logo for “Queendom” was released on Twitter yesterday.
The album is said to contain six songs and will be released on August 16.
As with the recently released solo albums, there will be a Photobook version and a Case version of “Queendom”.
The Photobook version contains the CD, an 84-page photo book, a portrait card, a bookmark, a photocard and, optionally and only for pre-orders, a poster. The Case version comes with the CD, a photo book, two postcards, a folded poster, a special card, two stickers, a photocard and also an optional poster.
